You'd think after four years in this place nothing would surprise me anymore, but there I was staring at the moving tree that I somehow hadn't noticed until now, don't ask me how I didn't notice it before. I kind of took the warnings seriously to not go near the forest so I never really did, particularly considering I plan on dropping out of these Care of Magical Creatures classes as soon as I can, they don't do me any good at all.
Ugh. I don't know how you guys do it, not being immersed in this whole magic thing for the majority of life makes it really difficult to figure out this stuff or know what some people are talking about. It's like you're talking in a completely different language and it's bothersome every time I get lost amongst the words.
This sucks and I'm starting to think I should have just gone to military school instead, at least I'd know what they were talking about there...

Military school?

Mhmm! It's kind of weird when you look at it, I guess, but my father used to be from Portugal and, well, he more or less signed my older sister and I up to a school there. Well, when we lived there, anyway.
no subject
You're quite far from Portugal now though. You moved here?
no subject
We did, yes. We had lived with father in Portugal and during the summer stayed with mother in Spain, though since dad's getting older now he thought it better for him to move here for some reason. Something about being able to get away from his past and not have people recognize him, I wasn't really listening.

Spain and Portugal. You've been to quite a few places.

If your dad wanted to make a break from his past, I don't think he'd appreciate you talking about it in a public journal post. It puts the both of you in a bit of a dodgy light.

Oh! Oh that's not what I meant at all. It's more that he has a few accomplishments under his belt and he didn't want to be in the limelight anymore as he never got any peace and quiet. It's nothing dodgy at all, promise!

You're kind off drawing attention to yourself, and him, by talking about it though.

Urk. Not what I meant to do at all, not that they'd find anything sketchy if they looked him up or something.

You mentioned military school. I have to say, that's pretty cool. If you don't mind, what did you learn there?
[Filtered]
Yeah well, just be careful in the future. This school's one giant gossip column. Things get set off faster than fireworks on the Queen's birthday.

Quite a lot, actually! Your basic things along with some languages, military tactics, how to fire a gun, there was a lot of options, too. Like I did rhythmic gymnastics and fencing for a few years, I miss it.

... Sounds like fun, really. A lot more lively than school ever was, everyone was too scared of getting disciplined to start any real gossip.

I think that's what we might need here actually. I'm not going to name any names, but some students here really need a scuff around the ear.

As much as I wanted to sometimes.[Filtered]
You'd think the professors would have more free reign over those kinds of things than they really do. It's a pity, really, but what can you do?
no subject
You did girl's hand-to-hand? What sort of style? Karate or something?
[Filtered]
Not much. It's not really my business either, but some of the things the students get away with here is pretty shocking, I think.

Do tell, you have me curious now. If nothing else it'll probably make me want to tear my hair out.

Most would want to stay away from tearing their hair out too. It really isn't my place to pass the dirt on someone but if you keep an eye out on the journals, you'll find them soon enough.

Call me a masochist, I guess. I'll keep it in mind, though, they might be needing a bit more punishment than the professors can dish out.

My advice would be to leave it to the professors; they've got the authority and whatnot. Maybe wait till you're in your fifth year and whether you make Prefect before you start clamping down on bad behaviour, because a lot of students round here don't take too kindly to people getting involved in their business.
