You'd think after four years in this place nothing would surprise me anymore, but there I was staring at the moving tree that I somehow hadn't noticed until now, don't ask me how I didn't notice it before. I kind of took the warnings seriously to not go near the forest so I never really did, particularly considering I plan on dropping out of these Care of Magical Creatures classes as soon as I can, they don't do me any good at all.

Ugh. I don't know how you guys do it, not being immersed in this whole magic thing for the majority of life makes it really difficult to figure out this stuff or know what some people are talking about. It's like you're talking in a completely different language and it's bothersome every time I get lost amongst the words.

This sucks and I'm starting to think I should have just gone to military school instead, at least I'd know what they were talking about there...

You mentioned military school. I have to say, that's pretty cool. If you don't mind, what did you learn there?

Yeah well, just be careful in the future. This school's one giant gossip column. Things get set off faster than fireworks on the Queen's birthday.

Quite a lot, actually! Your basic things along with some languages, military tactics, how to fire a gun, there was a lot of options, too. Like I did rhythmic gymnastics and fencing for a few years, I miss it.

... Sounds like fun, really. A lot more lively than school ever was, everyone was too scared of getting disciplined to start any real gossip.

That sounds pretty exciting actually. I wouldn't have minded going to one, to be frank. Would probably be more engaging than the normal schools. Was there any boxing or hand-to-hand fighting classes?

I think that's what we might need here actually. I'm not going to name any names, but some students here really need a scuff around the ear.

I think they had wrestling at the boys' one, the one I went to was just for girls and they didn't really let us beat up on each other. As much as I wanted to sometimes.

You'd think the professors would have more free reign over those kinds of things than they really do. It's a pity, really, but what can you do?

That's kind of a pity. Boxing's a good sport; it teaches you to be disciplined, you get stronger and you learn how to defend yourself by being quick on your feet.

You did girl's hand-to-hand? What sort of style? Karate or something?

Not much. It's not really my business either, but some of the things the students get away with here is pretty shocking, I think.

Yeah, well, they didn't think it was something we needed to be taught. I don't remember the name of it as I didn't take much of it, what I had was more self-defense style....

Do tell, you have me curious now. If nothing else it'll probably make me want to tear my hair out.

Most would want to stay away from tearing their hair out too. It really isn't my place to pass the dirt on someone but if you keep an eye out on the journals, you'll find them soon enough.

A little bit, but nowhere near enough to say that I'm any good at it. Believe it or not, my strongest point was when they put a gun in my hands.

Call me a masochist, I guess. I'll keep it in mind, though, they might be needing a bit more punishment than the professors can dish out.

What sort of gun? A handgun?

My advice would be to leave it to the professors; they've got the authority and whatnot. Maybe wait till you're in your fifth year and whether you make Prefect before you start clamping down on bad behaviour, because a lot of students round here don't take too kindly to people getting involved in their business.
