Well, apparently you can lose points for telling professors that what they're teaching is, well, wrong.

But really, if there is a quicker way to do it, shouldn't they teach it? Okay, so it was a little more dangerous if done wrong, but hey, isn't that just the kinda incentive you need to make sure you do it right?

'A little more dangerous' isn't what I'd use to describe an explosion the size of half a classroom, Mr Stark.

And that's one reason why the teachers don't use that method to cast that spell. Done wrongly, the spell could've really hurt the caster or an innocent passer-by. I'm not saying that your way is wrong, but that the repercussions for short-cuts could be dangerous if carried out by less adept students.
