Why do the staircases keep moving? Who designed this castle?

I don't like this. They can't expect us to be anywhere on time if the castle keeps changing. And what if we get lost?

Do the changes at least happen on some kind of schedule? If I could figure that out, I might have a chance of finding out where my Arithmancy class is.

My brother tells me one just has to get use to it. I don't know if there is a pattern yet, but if there is I am sure to find out in the fall. I'll get back to you on that.

For a structure as large as Hogwarts it would most likely be more magic than one could muster in a lifetime.
Hogwarts magic comes from more than just the Founders. Every spell cast on the castle by every student, staff and visitor has undoubtedly left a lasting effect on the school.
