IC Prospective | Mycroft 7th year

Character: Mycroft Holmes (BBC 'Sherlock')
Mun: Gowa
Plot specific: Not really, just trying out Mycroft as year head boy or prefect?

While I understand that as a student one cannot simply ignore the opportunities to cause chaos when presented with such a situation, I strongly encourage everyone to please do as they are told and avoid stealing into the Forbidden Forest. Things could get... messy.

[filtered to Sherlock]

This friendly suggestion goes double for you, brother. We wouldn't want to upset Mummy with an Owl about how you managed to get yourself spirited away by some over-eager Centaurs, now would we?

I apologize on behalf of all the middle class-and-lower members of the student body. We're all very sorry that we're not as fancy as you'd like.

Oh my God.

At least with Sherlock, I know that when he says stuff like that he usually means it, since he only occasionally understands sarcasm.

You, on the other hand.

I suppose so. He seems to be improving at -

Oh. Oh, I see what this is. Nope.

I'm not going to report to you about him, like I'm some weird emotional spy or something.

I thought I made that clear ages ago.

The hat argued with itself a lot on that, I admit. Ultimately, though, I don't think it makes much of a difference. Many people put too much stock into the whole houses thing. The system doesn't account for a lot of things.

And you really don't know me very well if you think I am - or ever have been - a complacent anything, Mycroft.

There's nothing wrong with compromise, if that's what you're driving at.

He may be casually bandying around the word "mudblood" less, though that might just be when I'm around. Still.

And out of curiosity, I'd love to hear what you think I'm sacrificing by being friends with him.

John gives no shits if he loses all the points

[Oh, it. is. on.]

How about now? Look, I've already gone and written the letter for you:

"Dear Mrs. Holmes,

It is with great pride that I write to inform you that your eldest son, Mycroft Holmes, has won the coveted Prat of the Century Award. There was a lot of competition, but the breadth and depth of his arseholery really set him in a league above his competition. Not only is he a bully who really only cares about getting his own way and damn the opinions of anyone else, but he wraps all that up in a thin, transparent sheet that he laughingly calls brotherly concern and then ties it up with a ribbon of completely fake maturity. How he got to be Head Boy is anyone's guess, but it probably involved a lot of brown-nosing (bonus points for style).

Best,

John H. Watson"

Writing requires so much exertion after all. You might get a cramp from all the activity.

Well, now you know. Hard to believe some people might not want to treat him like some clay they can press into whatever little mold they like and then pout if he rebels against it. Shocker.

Do as you like; I still feel justified.

True, and I know I don't know the extent of it, but you'll just make things worse if you think you can force him to do anything. If you think you can force anyone to do anything.

I know that's about as close as you get to making compliments, so... thanks, I suppose.

Well, you're certainly not very good at this whole persuasion business, at least as far as Sherlock or I'm concerned. You're the sort to go on in metaphors and doubletalk; surely you know the phrase "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar"?

You might want to take note that there's a whole lot of middle ground between wringing your hands and saying "pwetty pwease with a cherry on top" and being an immovable pillock with the trunk of an old growth redwood stuck up his -

well, I don't need to draw you a map for you to figure that last bit out.

You know, for most people, the less they know about anything to do with their siblings' hind ends the better.

And fine. If you're so keen on knowing, I'll tell you why I think Sherlock is changing, even if it's just in small, insignificant ways. It's because he's interested in hanging around me at all.
