True, and I know I don't know the extent of it, but you'll just make things worse if you think you can force him to do anything. If you think you can force anyone to do anything.

I rarely force people to do things, John. I've tried being a bully and it is such tiring work. All that threatening and posturing, ugh. I prefer to persuade people. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't.

In Sherlock's case, he usually chooses the latter, as you can imagine.

I am hardly here to mollycoddle the students, as you well know, and in turn, neither Sherlock nor I have really ever been the sort to be swayed by someone simply saying please. Tell me, how often does Sherlock concede to one of your requests when you say it politely?

You know, for most people, the less they know about anything to do with their siblings' hind ends the better.

And fine. If you're so keen on knowing, I'll tell you why I think Sherlock is changing, even if it's just in small, insignificant ways. It's because he's interested in hanging around me at all.

If you think he only counts as a human being because there's no reason someone truly obsessed with novelty and brilliance would bother hanging around me, then you really are one of the worst siblings I've ever known. And mine's been dead to the world drunk the last 3 times I've seen her.

You're muggleborn, yes? Tell me, have you seen many of those 'movies' about men made out of metal, those 'robots'? I've watched my brother attempt to turn himself into such a thing in terms of ridding himself completely of emotional vulnerability.

He might always have been an organic human being but he was growing a bit too detached with life.

Putting aside the fact that I'm a bit impressed you know what movies and robots are at all, just because he wanted or even tried to be a certain way doesn't mean that he is.

We all try to be things we aren't at one point or another. Some people just try for a hell of a lot longer.

You've witnessed first-hand how stubborn he can be, most likely he'd have kept this up well into his thirties if no one stepped in.

I agree with you for once there.

And yes, he's stubborn, but it often seems like people are making it out to be a much grander thing than it actually is. But then I've been called stubborn myself, so perhaps it's like a fish not noticing it's wet.
